摘要

This paper proposes a framework for the preliminary design of container ships considering the risk of cargo loss inship-ship collision accidents. The procedure is an integration of a probabilistic collision damage model, common shipdesign software and parametric analytical models. Various ship design merits, e.g., the steel weight, ship resistance,cargo capacity, and the expected cargo loss due to ship-ship collisions are evaluated at the same time to achieve anoptimal design in terms of the overall performance of the ship. The procedure was implemented in a parametric way,such that by systematically varying the parameters related to the conceptual design of the ship, large amount ofdesign variants can be evaluated and compared. The comparison of the ship design merits across the different variantsis discussed through a case study with a hypothetical container ship to get a preliminary insight into the trade-offs inthe context of risk-based ship design.
