Low Shrink HDPE for the Sheathing of Fibre Optic Minicable

Sheath shrinkage can impose large stresses on a fibre optic cablerncore leading to a reduction in the operating temperature range of therncable. Our paper describes the application of a special HDPE havingrninherently low shrinkage for the sheathing of high fibre count looserntube minicables intended for use in the access network. From thisrnstudy it can be concluded that longitudinal shrinkage of the cablernsheath can have a major impact on cable attenuation and thatrnpolymer relaxation rather than melt temperature is the dominantrnfactor.
