According to the United Nations there are almost one billion people in the world who arernilliterate. A major reason for this is that educational resources are more unevenly andrnunfairly distributed across the world than financial resources (Ryan, 1996). Because ofrnthis inequity close to a thousand million people are excluded from the opportunity for anrneducation and condemned to a life of ignorance and despair (The InternationalrnConsultative Forum on Education for All, 1996).rnNo one should be denied access to education because of his or her birth that determinesrnlocale and economic situation. Today equal opportunity to education simply does notrnexist in this world or even in the United States. Education is fundamental to the securingrnof rights such as quality life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A serious initiativerntoward Universal Education is necessary if humanity is to evolve to a higher level.rnInternet-enabled education has the potential to bring knowledge and learning to anyonernon Earth, any place at any time
