The prediction of strength and durability of bonded joints after a plastic deformation of the substrate has occurred is of major concern e. g. if an adhesively bonded vehicle structure needs to be mechanically realigned after an accident or if adhesive joints in the building industry are being deformed under excessive load e. g. after a seismic event. For the experimental work in this study different steel and aluminium alloys are used as substrate materials. For bonding structural epoxy and polyurethane adhesives will be chosen. In a first step single lap joints are fabricated. After the application and curing of the adhesive one of the members of the bonded joint will be stretched up to a defined rate of plastic deformation. To investigate the influence of aging on the deformation behaviour and durability the bonded joints will be aged according to test standards which are commonly used in industry such as immersion tests or tests with combined corrosive and humid climate exposure. After the aging simulation the deformation behaviour of these specimens will be tested in the single lap shear test and compared to samples which were not deformed before aging.
