Analysis of the robustness of categorical perception for L2 learners

By fitting gamma distribution to the responserntime of the L2 learners identifying monosyllablesrnwith Mandarin Tone 2 and Tone 3, therndistribution parameters are used to compare thernrobustness of categorical perception betweenrnnatives and learners as well as for learners beforernand after training. The results show that tornimprove the robustness of categorical perceptionrnis a much more challenging task than to improvernthe accuracy of identification. L2 learners mightrnachieve to a robust perception on a long-termrnscale of learning, or perceptual training methodsrnfocusing on improving the robustness could berntaken into consideration.
