Enabling Psychological Operations in Simulation

To support the development of the Contemporary Operational Environment (COE) in Army simulations, an information dissemination framework has been developed that leverages the Civilian Information Infrastructure (CII) model, which has been integrated into OneSAF, to enable the use of psychological operations (psyop) in simulation by one COE opposing force (OPFOR) organization against another. The CII is the collective set of communications, transportation, services and supporting sub-infrastructures that form the backbone for the exchange of information for any geo-political region. The COE OPFOR are the collective set of organizations existing in and acting on the environment in the Blue Force area of operations. In this effort, psyop effects are prompted based on the net change in mood of individual entities and sides as a consequence of; psyop messaging via the CII, psyop related behavior execution, the resultant dissemination of awareness of such events through the population, and the indirect effects of behavior execution that force changes to routine non-combatant behaviors. The enabling framework is composed of the message transport, behavior mood dissemination and civilian response overlay models. These models account for information sent, behavior consequence, secondary dissemination and the indirect effects of the consequences of behaviors.
