The paper presents the numerical and experimentalrnvalidation of an intelligent controller for a new morphingrnmechanism using smart materials made of Shape MemoryrnAlloy (SMA) for the actuators. A brief presentation of thernfinally adopted controller architecture precedes itsrnvalidation exposure consisting in numerical simulations,rnexperimental bench tests, and wind tunnel tests. ThernMatlab/Simulink software is used to tune the controllerrnthrough numerical simulation and after that to bernexperimentally implemented. In the physical modelrndevelopment, two Programmable Switching PowerrnSupplies AMREL SPS100-33 and a Quanser Q8 datarnacquisition card are used. The feedback signals in therncontrol loop are provided by two Linear VariablernDifferential Transformer potentiometers monitoring thernactuators’ positions. Also, six thermocouples allowrnsupervising of the SMA wires temperatures. In order tornobtain the desired skin deflections, the power supplies arerncontrolled using the acquisition card outputs.
