摘要

Failure of secondary structures in past earthquakes have emphasised the importance of proper seismic design.This can only be achieved when the loading of the secondary structures can be accurately quantified.It is difficult to correctly determine this load,since it depends on the interaction between the response of the primary and secondary structures.Study of the interaction requires good understanding of the characteristics of the ground motions and the dynamic properties of both the primary and secondary structures.In this study,shake table experiments were performed to investigate the effect of different dominant frequencies of ground excitations on the response of structures.The model consisted of a single degree-of-freedom(SDOF)primary structure and a SDOF secondary structure.During the excitation of higher dominant frequencies,the response of the primary structure was reduced when the secondary structure was present.For the same excitation,the secondary structure experienced more high frequency vibration.The results indicated that under different excitations secondary structures can affect the primary structure differently,thus proved the significance of the primary-secondary structure interaction.
