Established literature models were applied to the prediction of the exit moisture ofrnproducts from mechanically agitated fluidised bed dryers with inert particles beds. Thisrnrequired to determined distribution of residence times (RTD) of the dried substrate inrnsuch driers, which was done with stimulus-response methodology, using a tracer.rnThe results show that the mean time of residence had a minimum value with arnmechanical agitation rate of about 75 rpm, the feed suspension flow did not influence itrnsignificantly and the experimental RTD agreed in a satisfactory way with a multistagernfluidized bed model.rnThe exit moisture of product could be predicted adequately by a drying model based onrnthe equation of Vanderschuren and Delvosalle.
