Finite element (FE) procedure is presented for solving weighted residual formulation ofrnmagnetotelluric (MT) fields in 2-D conductivity structures. In allusion to the problem that regular grids havernno potential to incorporate arbitrary topography and complex geologic structures, we introduce COMSOLrnMultiphysics to build arbitrary geometries and subdivide them with free quadrilateral. We demonstrate thernhigh-accuracy and flexibility of numerical simulations based on unstructured grid, which provides a newrntechnology to discretize the computational domain.
