In passive emitter location systems using the Timerndifference of arrival(TDOA) and Frequency Difference ofrnarrival(FDOA) measurements, the estimation performancernvaries with the geometric deployment and velocities ofrnthe sensors due to the high non-linearity of thernTDOA/FDOA signal models, even when the estimationrnalgorithm and the measurement error are not changed. Tornachieve a desired performance, finding appropriaterndeployment and velocities of the sensors is required. Thernproblem is how to find them because there are too manyrncases of operating the emitter location systems. To copernwith this problem, we derive an error ellipse to evaluaternthe estimation accuracy according to geometricrndeployment of the sensors based on the signal model in arn3-dimensional space (3-D) and various velocities. Byrnusing the derived error ellipse, analysis on thernperformance in the cases of several practical scenarios isrncarried out. The reliability of our evaluation method isrnconfirmed by comparing to the performance evaluationrnbased on the root-mean square error for the correspondingrnsimulation results. Our analysis results on the variousrnpractical situations will be very helpful for operating thernpassive emitter location systems.
