Discontinuous curent mode control scheme for single phase and three-phase AC-DC converters with active power filtering and power factor correcton functions scheme has attracted special interest in industrial and telecommunication energy plants. This control strategy has practical advantages of a simmple control configuration and cost-effectiveness. On the other hand, for emergency engine-driven generator, three phase PFC converter has not been effectively adoopted because the characteristics of conventioal three phase PFC control scheme have some disavantages for engine-driven generator interactive three phase PFC control scheme have some disadvantages for engine-driven generator interactive three phase AC mains. Thus, a new and simple PFC converter circuit configuration with discontinuous current mode control schemem is proposed which is suitable for engine-driven generator interconnected three phase AC mains. This paper presents an operating principle and unique features of cost-effective engine-driven generator interactive three phase active PFC ocnverter circuit topology proposed here, along with harmonic current and PFC performance evaluations on the basis of experiment results of this application-specific ocnverter as compared with conventional two types of three-phase PFC converters.
