Modelling of a Process for Applying a Wear Resistant Coating

This paper presents a simple model of a process for applying a wear resistant coating to a surface. In this process a rod immersed in powder is heated electrically to a temperature at which the powder melts onto the rod surface. The paper present an analysis of this process using a generalised Fourier expansion. Using this model it is possible to calculate the process parameters required to achieve the required surface coverage, as well as the temperature profile through the different stages of the process.
