Based on AlZnMgCu-alloy system a new premix with better properties will be presented. By using a different powder alloying technique a significant improvement could be achieved compared to existing sinter blends. Due to high volume of intermediate liquid phases present, these existing elemental powder blends give difficulties in controlling the sintering process. Master alloy powder premixes instead show better dimensional stability, improved sintering activity and lead to higher strength along with better elongation. By applying an optimised sintering process a near theoretical density sintered part with a homogenous microstructure and improved appearance can be achieved.
