Despite their high price, platinum materials are widely used in technical applications due to their properties which are particularly well suited to the high-temperature range. ODS-Pt materials are of special interest in the glass industry, as solid solution hardened materials cannot sufficient withstands the extreme thermal loadings. Common manufacturing comprises PM processing by mixing, milling, co-precipitation, or internal oxidation. The main strengthening mechanisms are summarized together with the latest results on manufacturing, structure, mechanical properties and applications of oxide dispersion hardened platinum materials. All ODS-Pt materials have good processing characteristics, show resistance to grain growth and good ductility at elevated temperatures.
