A lot of mechanical-stabilized walls and other types of reinforced soils were used in projects to improve the transportation network in Sochi, the city of the Olympic Games. The main building sites were junctions of highways, railroad tracks, etc. Data which were collected during field in-situ tests at the construction site and from laboratory tests are presented in the paper. A special metal box was designed and used in laboratory pullout tests to define the interaction between anchoring elements and soil. The pullout strain was created by using a screw element and was measured by strain gauges. In these tests sand and three types of geosynthetics were used. The tests were performed at several values of the vertical pressure, and the coefficients of the interaction between the geogrids and soil were calculated. To investigate the interaction factor between anchoring elements and the soil some experiments were conducted in-situ on one construction site.
