BMG and CTP reported on the installation of a Regenerative Thermo-Oxidizer (RTO) for the offgasesrnfrom a Short Rotary Furnace (SRF) at the Lead-Zinc 2000 Conference in Pittsburgh. The RTO hasrnbeen in operation for 10 years now. The reduction of hydrocarbons and dioxins has been very successful.rnAdvantages and disadvantages will be reported. The energy consumption has been optimized. The foulingrnof the ceramic heat exchanging elements caused by ammonium sulphate has caused some difficulties. Thisrnhas been caused by the presence of a residual amount of sulphur dioxide reacting with ammonia from therncombustion of the oil in the oxy-fuel air burners.
