PRC'S STRATEGY FOR NATIONAL AND GLOBAL NEEDS TO ENHANCE MICROSYSTEMS PACKAGING EDUCATION

Microsystems and Information Technology is the largest industry in the world, approximately $1.2 Trillion currently, and is expected to grow to $3.0 Trillion within a decade. To sustain this growth not only new products need to be brought to the global market place but also new human resources to develop them. Both of these issues are problems that require global efforts and solutions. In this article we outline programs at the Packaging Research Center (PRC) at Georgia Tech that have been developed to meet this goal. These programs are developed and implemented in partnership with professional societies, academia and industry. They include undergraduate research scholarships, corporate fellowships, development of web based courses, workshops and international academic conferences, summer research experience for international graduate students, design and development of joint and executive MS degree programs.
