The geneal solution to the themal resistance of a rectangular orthotropic thermal spreader depends on several dimensionless geometric and thermal parameters. The solution is presented graphically for several values of the vertical-to-horizontal thermal conductivity ratio, the Biot number, and the full range of the nondimensional width of the applied heat flux. Based on the dimensionless physical parameters, the thermal resistance and the temperature drop across a heat spreader can be determined for engineering applications. The results of this analysis provide a design tool for electronic component design engineers.
