Semantic Analysis Method for Disambiguation of Japanese Compound Verbs

We propose a semantic analysis method for the disambiguation of Japanese compound verbs. Japanese compound verbs exhibit high productivity and are ambiguous, which makes it difficult to process them by computer. We focus on ambiguous Japanese compound verbs, and describe a method employing 106 disambiguation rules based on the semantic features of the first verb of a compound and syntactic patterns consisting of co-occurrence between verbs and nouns. After evaluation by applying these disambiguation rules to compound verbs in the dictionary, 88.7% accuracy is obtained.
