RESEARCH ON READING PROCESS: DISCOURSE MARKER EFFECT

摘要

The existing reading aid systems such as machine translation and glosser certainly seem to support readers with respect to sentence understanding for non-native speakers. These systems, however, may not support readers for discourse understanding. This paper suggests that a reading aid system should support readers for discourse understanding on the basis of the empirical fact that discourse understanding fails because of syntactic ambiguity.
