Fincantieri is an Italian Government owned company and their Naval Vessels Business Unit (NVBU) is the shipbuilder for the Italian Navy (ITN) – and many other Navies – including the USN’s Freedom Class LCS. The ITN has commenced on a modernisation program and Fincantieri is working with them to design, build and support a range of new ships.rnMr Gambacorta will provide a brief look at the major surface combatants that have been developed and are being delivered to the ITN, together with a look at some new concepts that are on the drawing board for the immediate future.rnOf interest to the Australian audience is Fincantieri’s highly adaptable FREMM Frigate. Fincantieri believes that the ASW version, fitted with CEA’s radars will be a strong contender for the SEA 5000 Future Frigate Project.
