Dynamic testing using simulation models can and should be applied in a wider capacity in any shore based integration and test facility to de-risk the onboard setting to work and commissioning of complex control systemsrnACTS trainers (MRT and SCT) were delivered on time to meet the ’first of class’ Astute Class submarine building programme.rnThe Astute is the first UK nuclear submarine fitted with IPMS, including aspects for both propulsion and platform control and monitoring, and a computer controlled Steering and Diving Autopilot control, an embedded application of Astute PMS that was also successfully embedded (deploying boat software) into the SCT.rnAchieving ACTS operational date to meet the Astute class submarine building programme was possible because MSUK was both the IPMS and Trainer provider, and a key factor was that a common software toolset was used for the development of the Astute automation and IPMS, and for the simulation modeling.
