DESCRIBING TEAM DEVELOPMENT IN SCIENCE ANDENGINEERING ORGANIZATIONS

Since the early 1900's researchers have beenrndeveloping theories on the development of groupsrnwithin organizations. With the emergence of teams asrnthe basic unit of work in science and engineeringrnorganizations, practitioners have begun to apply somerngroup development theories to teams within the sciencernand engineering community without knowing if thatrnapplication is correct. Research has begun at ThernUniversity of Alabama in Huntsville Industrial andrnSystems Engineering and Engineering Managementrndepartment to determine the appropriate theory to usernto describe team development in science andrnengineering organizations. This paper shall address thernfindings to date and future work proposed.
