DESCRIBING TEAM DEVELOPMENT IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING ORGANIZATIONS

Since the early 1900's researchers have been developing theories on the development of groups within organizations. With the emergence of teams as the basic unit of work in science and engineering organizations, practitioners have begun to apply some group development theories to teams within the science and engineering community without knowing if that application is correct. Research has begun at The University of Alabama in Huntsville Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management department to determine the appropriate theory to use to describe team development in science and engineering organizations. This paper shall address the findings to date and future work proposed.
