A new economic indicator, called simple thermal efficiencyrnparameter (STEP), was developed to evaluate the performancernof a steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project. Itsrnusefulness as an economic indicator was validatedrnqualitatively and quantitatively. STEP is based on cumulativernsteam-oil ratio (CSOR), calendar day oil rate (CDOR) andrnrecovery factor (RF) for the time corresponding to anrninstantaneous steam-oil ratio (SOR) of 4.rnIn this study, a dynamic model for STEP called STEP-Drnwas developed to be used as an economic indicator under thernchanging conditions of the economic limit of SOR and heavyrnoil price. STEP-D is calculated from the original STEP valuernby including the two dynamic factors, heavy oil price andrnSOR economic limit. The results showed a good linearrnrelationship between STEP-D and net present value (NPV),rnwith a higher than 0.93 correlation coefficient. STEP-D mayrntherefore be a valuable economic indicator under dynamicrnsituations.
