Towards Services that Enable Ubiquitous Access to Virtual Communication Spaces

The growing-together of telecommunication and information technology in conjunction with the emergence of portable, connected, and ubiquitous computing devices will bring about a new generation of conferencing and telecommunication systems that enable ubiquitous communication by multiple modalities and media. An obvious goal in this context is to achieve device interoperability among heterogeneous information appliances. However, in addition to base technology development, new communication support services are needed to enhance the usability of the upcoming generation of computer-mediated communication systems.
