Strategies for Success: AAC Devices and Adults with Developmental Disabilities

In summary, the authors found that successful use of AAC technology with this population could be achieved when the following factors were taken into consideration. 1. The vocabulary programmed in the devices reflected the subjects' daily communication needs. 2. Pictures and symbols used to represent vocabulary were meaningful and easily differentiated. 3. The systems were easy to operate by both caretakers and communicators. 4. The devices were portable and durable enough to meet daily activities.
