摘要

The composite panels including the embedded optical fibres were initially stronger. As the impact level increased they lost more of their strength when compared with the plain composite panels. In low impact energies the embedded FOS prevented the damage propagation improving at the same time the mechanical performance of the composite. However, it is not still clear in what extent the impact-induced damage mechanisms, either in the neighbourhood of the optical fibres or far away from the impact zone, are influenced by the presence of embedded FOS.
