Two-Field Colour-Sequential Display

Conventional displays use at least three primaries for fullrncolour image reproduction. In this contribution, we discuss thernreproduction of colour images using an LC-display system withrntwo local dynamic primaries, based on a segmented backlight.rnThe two primaries are chosen to minimise colour error by meansrnof total least squares. By considering video statistics, it is shownrnthat full colour repreoduction with an accuracy of Δu′v′ < 0:02rnfor more than 99.9% of the pixels in a segment can be achievedrn84% of the time with 2,304 semgments. Simulation results showrnthat two-primary systems can closely resemble colour reproductionrnof a conventional three-primary system.
