The following conclusions can be drawn from the precipitation studies of nickel and cobalt from a copper depleted Cu-Ni-Co sulphate solution generated from acid pressure leaching of a synthetic matte containing Cu-Ni-Co-Fe-S: For high purity Ni & Co powders, metal separation was tried by using a solvent mixture PC-88A and Cyanex-272 having good separation factor. Two stage counter-current extraction with 5% PC88A + 2% Cyanex 272 in Kerosene yields more than 99% Co extraction efficiency with very minor Ni co-extraction. Quantitative stripping of Co from loaded organic is possible in single stage with 20 g/L sulphuric acid.
