Engineers involved in the evaluation, repair, and rehabilitation of concrete bridtges have long had a need for nondestructive test methods which can provide information about the internal condition of a structure without the need to drill holes into the structure. The impact-echo method -- a versatile and powerful technique that can detect internal flaws in a wide variety of reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges -- is rapidly becoming an extremely useful tool for engineers involved in condition assessment situations.
