Consequently advanced biotechnologies, far from representing a threat to the movement towards universal adherence to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, offer the potential for increasing adherence by the developing countries to the Convention, as well as unsurpassed technical methods to assure its compliance. In this particular context, the participation of the entire scientific research community is to be greatly encouraged, as scientific co-operation and exchange of information could be a highly practical tool to complement inspections and other verification mechanisms to ensure the full implementation of and compliance with the Convention.
