DATABASES, NETWORKS AND CLEARING HOUSES

Databases, networks and clearing houses will all contribute significantly to increasing transparency about activities relevant to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention and thus, over time, building confidence between States Parties and thereby enhancing security. The provisions in the composite Protocol text recognise the importance of these capabilities and their contribution to capacity building. They also recognise that it will be important for the future Organisation to implement the Protocol will need to focus on those activities of particular relevance to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention and to avoid duplication with other ongoing activities notably under the Convention on Biological Diversity.
