To allow plastic analysis for systems with semi-rigid joints the rotation capacity of the joints has to be checked to be sufficient. The available rotation capacity for a certain type of joint has to be compared with the required rotation capacity values derived from system investigations. But as this procedure is too complicated for daily use a verification procedure which leads to simple design rules was presented. Special attention was given to tests for the component "column web in compression". Among other results the deformation capacity of the component was derived from these tests. By that it has been shown that the deformation capacity tends to decrease nearly linearly with an increasing axial column load. Finally based on these tests rotation capacity values for welded joints on basis of the component tests were estimated.
