Various technical fundamentals and facts about the use of flyash blended Portland pozzolana cement have been discussed in this article. The influence flyash has on the various properties of concrete have also been reviewed. There are still some areas which need further research to establish certain claims about the performance of this very useful waste material. The most exciting fact about flyash is that it is available in plenty. A good percentage of flyash available, unless reprocessed, may not be useful in cement and /or concrete manufacture. Flyash must be put to productive use especially in infrastructural works such as high volume flyash concrete roads (see figure No. 15), off shore structures and even normal structures for various applications. Worldwide studies and efforts are being made to use waste materials to conserve energy, reduce environmental pollution and also to reduce the problems of dumping waste materials. One of the most appropriate option which fits into all these slots is the use of flyash in cement and concrete. For sustainable development, this could be one good option for our country if not the best option. Besides considerable economy can also be achieved if this material is put to constructive use.
