Novel precursor in synthesis, characterization of CuInS2 via Microwave method

We have investigated the synthesis of nanostructured CuInS2 (CIS) with using a microwave method. Dark brown CuInS2 nanoparticles were obtained by microwaving the mixture of InCl3, Cu (gly)2 as a novel precursor and S (Thiourea) in 1∶1∶2 stoichiometric ratio in propylene glycol for 12 min. These nanoparticles were characterized extensively by techniques like powder X-ray diffraction, Room temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. The absorption and photoluminescence studies of the CuInS2 nanoparticles displayed quantum confinement behavior. An XRD study showed a tetragonal structure for CuInS2 prepared by microwave method. The band gap for CuInS2 was 2.2eV.
