At the port of Fushiki Toyama a quay was constructed over 14m of water. This quay was built on steel pipe piles installed using water jet vibratory technique (JV). However static and dynamic loading tests performed on the JV piles showed deficiencies in the bearing capacity. To increase the bearing capacity, a new technique for improving soil using cement milk in place of water (CJV method) was developed. The results of the static and dynamic loading tests on the CJV piles showed that the designed bearing capacity was achieved.
