Tool and Instrument Categorization for Smaller Classes of Rovs: A Proposal to Meet the Brazilian OG Industry Requirements

The study aims to understand and discuss the role of smaller classes of ROVs in the Brazilian pre-salt O&G exploration and production and to suggest ways to enable further applications of this technology by studying the tools and instruments employed. A base-case setup can be developed as a starting point for other academic efforts and further research in ROV applications to the O&G industry. The results are expected to help the application of ROVs to situations where they can complement existing operation and protecting the subsea assets from unexpected circumstances. This will eventually lead to cost savings and reduction of production downtime. The findings of this research are also intended to guide a discussion about continuous research of ROV tools applicable for the Brazilian O&G scenario. Using insights from a case study in river waters demolition, we evaluated the proposed setup in action, giving us a first glimpse of how useful it was.
