Ground subsidence due to mining is a common dilemma confronting thernunderground coal mining industry. The effects of underground longwallrnmining on river valleys have come under scrutiny, especially whenrnmining is located underneath catchment areas. As public awareness ofrnmining impacts on the environment increases, there is the need to developrndamage mitigation strategies. Results of numerical modelling show thatrnriver valley response to underground longwall mining can be simulatedrnand evaluated.
