The geothermal temperature is high in deep mines,so variation of temperature field in surrounding rock is larger due to roadway ventilation,and the higher thermal stress is caused in rock surrounding deep roadways.Therefore the influence of temperature field variation on surrounding rock stability must be taken into account in deep mining.The study on deformation and failure behavior of surrounding rock should be based on the coupled temperature filed and stress field analysis.In this paper,the hard sandstone roadway is given as an example.The coupled temperature field and stress field in surrounding rock is simulated by ANSYS.The variations of temperature field and stress field with time are studied.The results of numerical simulation show that plastic zone in surrounding rock is extended remarkably and plastic deformation increase obviously under thermal loads.The extension of plastic zone in surrounding rock is different with different cooling courses.The influence of temperature variation on roadways stability is more adverse when roadways ventilation start in winter.
