This work shows that nitrate ion reduction occurs on electrochemically deposited copper nuclei over a glassy carbon electrode in aqueous acid media. It was found that plots of J vs v~(1/2) at constant [NO_3] and J vs [NO_3~-], with constant sweep speed (v) the Randles-Sevick equation gives a congruent diffusion limiting rate that involves NO(g) formation, through transfer of 3 electrons. Under hydrodynamic conditions imposed on the electrode, it was possible to observe the simultaneous reduction of protons and nitrates with a deviation of the Levich equation at high rotation speeds.
