THERMOPLASTIC UMBILICAL HOSES - PERFORMANCES AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS

Nylon 11 umbilical hoses have been used for a long time because of their excellent cost/performance ratio, lightweight characteristics and good reliability. The purpose of this paper is to present the performance of Nylon 11 umbilical hoses, particularly chemical compatibility, permeation properties and mechanical properties. The effects of low temperature performance and performance under high pressure are discussed. New trends going to deeper water oilfield developments and to new injection chemicals necessitate new product developments. Therefore, new piping materials and concepts are presented for low methanol permeation hoses and high temperature hoses, and for particularly aggressive chemicals.
