Discounted cost assessment models for overhead power transmission lines using wires comprised of a steel core and twisted aluminum strands, conforming to GOST 839-80 (AS-type wires) and self-supporting insulated wires complying with GOST 31946-2012 (SSlW-type wires) rated at voltages of 10, 20 and 35 kV have been developed. The models are based on discounted cost linearization method and constitute simplified mathematical models generalized to the whole range of cross section areas available for a wire of a given specific type, which can be consequently used in the constructed power transmission lines (hereinafter referred to as cross section group). Coefficients of linearization are not dependable on rated power, which facilitates significantly the designing of power grids. The method of linearisation of discounted costs of power grid components enables the reduction of time and money required for the selection of the optimum solution. The suggested analytical representation of the function of grid component costs is perfectly simple and suitable for all the items in a cross section group. The coefficients of the costs function are constant for any given cross section group and can be determined in advance, which makes the calculation of discounted costs substantially easier and faster.
