This paper describes the caustic image formed from stress field in rolling contact with a crack. The caustic image formed from rolling contact stress field with a crack is very complicate, therefore the theoretical back ground of caustic image formation has been studied by simulating the caustic image. The main scheme for simulating caustic images is to obtain the value of grad (σ{sub}x+σ{sub}y). Then, the value of grad (σ{sub}x+σ{sub}y) was directly obtained from boundary element method in the computer program. In this paper, the program was extended to simulate also their initial curves where the light rays passed through on the disk and created a caustic image on the screen. The size and shape of simulated caustic images by this method was coincident with experimental caustic images. Then the relationship between caustic images and initial curves was considered.
