Usage of Electric Vehicle (EV) around the world has been on the increase rapidly. As a result, their integration to the grid, dependency, reliability have raised the question of feasibility. Hence, numerous researches regarding their charging, fault analysis, propulsion, architecture are on the advanced level. Since thousands of EVs are getting included in the same power system, they have a potential to deteriorate the grid. This paper presents computation and assessment of the effects of harmonic components on the grid of Bangladesh Power System (BPS) during charging the plugged-in hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) of this country. Harmonics from charging a single EV and then a group of EVs have been measured and projected. The voltage and current waveforms have been captured to investigate the harmonic components and thereby to calculate total current harmonics distortion (THDi) and total voltage harmonics distortion (THDv). Later, with the help of software, the total scenario of PHEV integration to the grid is deduced in terms of THDi and THDv as well. Something singular about this paper is that all the measurements are done with actual PHEV and applied on the actual number of PHEVs plying on the roads of Bangladesh.
