An Empirical Analysis of China's Electricity Market Power Measurement Based on Speculative Variational Model

Based on the panel data of seven regions across the country from 2010 to 2018, this paper uses the CV model to estimate the market power of each region. The empirical results show that: the competitive behavior of North China, East China, and South China is between perfect competition and Cournot competition. Among them, North China is closer to perfect competition, Northeast China is closer to Cournot competition, and the competition in Central China, Southwest, and Northwest China is oligopolistic competition, and Northwest China has the highest degree of monopoly. Therefore, it is suggested that, in the new electricity reform, combining the successful experience of foreign countries and the domestic national conditions, further introduce competition in the electricity sales link. The marketization of the power industry should be steadily promoted in order to improve the economic efficiency of the power market.
