The present paper presents an estimation of the maximum energy storage requirements needed for a rural micro grid operated only on renewable energy inputs (solar, wind, biomass and hydro resources). Using the data of a Indian rural micro grid, a methodology is outlined that can help in giving a fair estimation of the range of storage energy variations for the micro grid under random climatic variations which affect the energy inputs due to the renewables. A Monte-Carlo based analysis is applied to assist in the estimation.
