In recent years, with application of 10kV insulation-covered distribution lines, lightning-caused breakage accidents occur frequently, and reasonable protective measures are urgently needed. The landform has a certain impact on the lightning-caused breakage. Therefore, the lightning activity in Datong area in recent 5 years is analyzed, and the correlation of lightning activity, landform features and distribution network lightning-caused breakage are analyzed. Tests of different protective measures were carried out. The variation law of lightning resistance level and lightning trip-out rate under different lightning protection measures is calculated. The lightning protection effect of lightning protection devices under different installation modes is compared and analyzed. The effect of different protective measures, the landforms and the historical lightning-caused fault are taken into account, and the optimal configuration scheme for improved insulation lines is carried out, which effectively reduces lightning-caused breakage accidents.
