PURPOSE: A method and system for changing an RC(Radio Configuration) for soft handoffs between a 1X network and a 2G network(Generation) is provided to implement a stable soft handoff between a 1X network and a 2G network by automatically executing an RC change in the boundary between the 1X network and the 2G network. CONSTITUTION: In case that a mobile terminal moves to the sector of a 2G wireless base station(220) through the sectors of 1X boundary base stations(230A,230B), a base station controller instructs the mobile terminal to change the radio configuration from RC3, a radio configuration to execute communication with a 1X wireless base station(230), to RC1, a radio configuration to execute communication with 2G wireless base station(220). The mobile terminal executes a soft handoff between the 2G wireless base station(220) and the 1X wireless base station(230) in the RC1 state. In case that the mobile terminal is located in the sector of a 1X boundary base station(230C), not overlapped with the sector of the 2G wireless base station(220), the base station controller doesn't request an RC change to the mobile terminal because the 1X boundary base station(230C) is in an RC_change disable state, even though a PSMM(Pilot Strength Measurement Message) signal is received.
